A Bundle of Balance

The three-part Balance Series has Finally arrived!
We have added a new set of programs to the Eyes-Free Fitness® family of programs, which is a series designed to increase your balance. Better balance means less injury and a freer feeling in your body. If you have never exercised, or you are recovering from a long stretch of being sedentary, this is where to begin.
Strengthen For Balance is first. Many balance programs do not focus on lower body strength which, to my way of thinking, is essential. Understanding where your balance point is located is also crucial for creating a solid foundation. This program begins with learning and experiencing the balance that naturally occurs when you havea true understanding of correct posture. The rest of the program takes you through a set of lower body exercises which strengthen muscles and body awareness. You will need a sturdy support and a pillow or similar.
Once you feel confident with the first program, you can move on to Flirting With Balance. This one continues to strengthen lower body and increase body awareness while beginning to play around with balance. These exercises also require a supportive piece of furniture for safety. This one is particularly fun because laughing is required. If you ever tried to stand on one foot, you will understand what I mean. These exercises are to be learned and then you can find time throughout your day to play around with them.
The last of the series is Balanced Movement. As always, we start from our solid foundation. This time we begin to step out. We challenge our body to maintain our body awareness and balance point while moving across the room. Of course, safety is paramount, so a clear stretch of wall, kitchen counter, or inviting a human friend to spot you is necessary. Once again, these exercises can be learned so you practice when you have a moment during your day.
We decided that extra audio descriptions are not necessary for these, since the exercises are well described and simple to learn. The challenge is in the practicing. You are always welcome to write to us if you need further help.
