Accessible Fitness, more choices for more people

Fitness has always been a concern with regard to both mental and physical health regardless of age, gender, or any other variables that make each one of us unique. And for those in the blind community, fitness is every bit as much—if not more—important.

Exercise for the visually impaired is something that should be incorporated into a weekly, if not daily, routine for a variety of reasons that are both similar and different from people within the sighted community. For those with total loss of sight as well as for those who are low sighted, a lack of regular exercise can bring on a host of other issues, including weight gain, sluggishness, and perhaps worst of all for many, insomnia or a circadian rhythm that has been thrown completely off track.

A quality workout done at the right time of day and at the right pace to meet your unique physical and mental needs is just what the doctor may have forgotten to order. For many blind people, fitness has been a challenge: without someone to guide you and without the ability to drive yourself to the gym, it becomes obvious why so many visually impaired individuals give up—but with the BlindAlive line of Fitness Workouts for blind people, you’ll never have to depend on anyone else again.

Yoga and Strength Training with wieghts for blind people along with a variety of other cardiovascular exercises help our bodies stay toned, help us gain muscle mass and lose weight, but most of all, can help lead a blind person away from a sense of helplessness.

Are you ready to sweat? Come get healthy and leave all your notions of not being able to get fit due to your visual impairment behind with BlindAlive!

Welcome to our Balance and Stretch Programs

Grace and ease are the results of a strong and balanced body. Both can be built intentionally with proper exercise. With visual impairment, balance can be a true challenge.

The following programs are all about developing balance to help navigate daily challenges while improving your health and well being. We currently offer four programs in this series that work beautifully together: Strengthen for Balance, Flirting with Balance, Balanced Movements, and Whole Body Stretch.

Strengthen For Balance is the first step toward feeling steady on your feet. It is about strengthening your lower body and increasing your body awareness in general. We take you through exercises to strengthen hips, ankles, and feet which are integral parts of a balanced body. The exercises are very easy to learn.

Flirting with Balance is the second of the Balance Series. It requires a stable surface and an ability to laugh at yourself. It will help you become more aware of how your body keeps you upright and strong.

Balanced Movements is the last of the Balance Series. This one will take you to the next level. It is important to feel confident with the first two programs before moving on to this one. The exercises will have you move across the room as you practice to improve your confidence. You will need a few feet of clear space close to a wall or counter. You can also invite a person to spot you. Safety is key.

The exercises are designed for you to learn and then to practice throughout your day. Mastering all the exercises in the three balance programs will help you walk proudly and much more confidently. You will be less likely to fall. Your body awareness will increase which will help your body and brain work better together. This could very well be the most important exercise program you ever do. Good balance is the foundation to all other exercise programs

Our Whole Body Stretch program helps to stretch our muscles everyday to keep them more supple and healthy. It is important to stretch whether you do any other exercises or not. These stretches can be done throughout the day. The seated ones can be done at your desk. This will keep you alert while soothing tight muscles. The floor or bed stretches will relax and uncurl your muscles before getting out of bed or going to sleep at night. Once you learn them, you can take them anywhere.

Our Let's Get Stable Foam Roller workout will have you use a foam roller like a pro. This program lets you maximize the results of an uncomplicated and safe exercise tool that is very easy to manage: a 36-inch-long foam roller. The sequence is simple and effective and as easy or as challenging as you choose it to be. We recommend the LuxFit Premium Foam Roller from Amazon.

I love having workout routines I can do at home, the same way sighted people have. If I didn't find your programs, I might never have started moving. I'm self-conscious about my lack of fitness and intimidated by being around people more advanced, so this medium is perfect. I can work on building strength and stamina at the pace I need to go without feeling like I'll be judged by strangers. You people are doing an amazing thing and suddenly, it's possible for me to take charge of my health and do what I can to care for the body that will be with me for life. Thank you.

We highly recommend that you invest in the Balance Bundle for only $49.99 that includes all three Balance programs, and as a bonus we add the Whole Body Stretch program a $19.99 value for free.

Here you can listen to samples from the Balance and Stretch workouts. When you are done, you can continue reading to purchase individual programs, or return to the program page.
