Accessible Fitness, more choices for more people

Fitness has always been a concern with regard to both mental and physical health regardless of age, gender, or any other variables that make each one of us unique. And for those in the blind community, fitness is every bit as much—if not more—important.

Exercise for the visually impaired is something that should be incorporated into a weekly, if not daily, routine for a variety of reasons that are both similar and different from people within the sighted community. For those with total loss of sight as well as for those who are low sighted, a lack of regular exercise can bring on a host of other issues, including weight gain, sluggishness, and perhaps worst of all for many, insomnia or a circadian rhythm that has been thrown completely off track.

A quality workout done at the right time of day and at the right pace to meet your unique physical and mental needs is just what the doctor may have forgotten to order. For many blind people, fitness has been a challenge: without someone to guide you and without the ability to drive yourself to the gym, it becomes obvious why so many visually impaired individuals give up—but with the BlindAlive line of Fitness Workouts for blind people, you’ll never have to depend on anyone else again.

Yoga and Strength Training with wieghts for blind people along with a variety of other cardiovascular exercises help our bodies stay toned, help us gain muscle mass and lose weight, but most of all, can help lead a blind person away from a sense of helplessness.

Are you ready to sweat? Come get healthy and leave all your notions of not being able to get fit due to your visual impairment behind with BlindAlive!

Welcome to our Pilates Programs

Pilates is a physical fitness system that was developed in the early twentieth century by Joseph Pilates. Pilates was formed by Joe during the First World War with the intention to improve the rehabilitation program for casualties. During this period, Pilates was designed to aid injured soldiers in regaining their health by strengthening, stretching, and stabilizing key muscles.

Mat Pilates is done on the floor using an exercise or yoga mat, by employing controlled breathing during body weight resisted movement to stretch and strengthen the body, primarily the muscles of the core, which span from your hips to your shoulders.

A personal touch is what John Maxwell calls: “Going the extra mile.” Too many people run their businesses but are not directly involved. I loved the personal call I received from Mel and I valued the time we spent on the call. It is refreshing to see when people care about the end result which is helping others. I am on board!!!!!

You can expect overall slimming, greatly improved flexibility and increased mobility, even in just a short space of time. Alignment and postural correction will have you holding yourself differently, standing taller, sitting straighter and moving with better balance and coordination.

You will feel an inner strength and heightened body awareness as you become in tune with the subtleties of your individual needs. This newfound enlightenment will empower you to be able to train yourself with the best possible efficiency, using your time most effectively.

Our Pilates selection offers Pilates Mat Level One, Pilates Mat Level Two and Pilates Chair with Ring.

Pilates Mat Level One and Two only require an exercise or yoga mat for a safe and comfortable experience.

For the Pilates Chair with Ring – which is a whole-body routine, you will need a straight chair, with or without arms, in which you can sit with your feet flat on the floor, and a Pilates ring. The ring creates the resistance. You can make this routine gentle or challenging.

Pilates Mat Level One, teaches the basics. It walks you through step by step with thorough instructions. If you have been curious about the benefits of Pilates, here is your starting point.

Pilates Mat Level Two keeps to the fundamental Pilates principals as you are guided through exercises that are more challenging than level one.

The Pilates Chair with Ring Program offers a great workout that challenges your core balance while giving you a great upper and lower body workout as well. Using the ring adds a dimension of strength building to the routine. You can also buy the ring from our partner ThePilatesTherapist.com.

Here you can listen to samples from the Pilates Program workouts. When you are done, you can continue reading to purchase the Pilates Bundle, purchase individual programs, or return to the program page.

We highly recommend that you invest in the Pilates Bundle that includes Pilates Mat Level One, Level Two, as well as the full Pilates Chair with Ring program for only $47.99, and save $12 over purchasing individual programs.  All programs come with bonus material that includes modification and adjustment options and detailed step-by-step descriptions of each movement in the routine, all sent to you as audio and text files.
