About BlindAlive
Mel and Jingles
Hi, I am Mel Scott. I’m here to tell you about some fitness choices that have not existed until now. I am blind, which means that exercise videos rarely gave me enough descriptive information to do the workouts correctly.
I wanted to lose weight after my pregnancies, and I wanted to regain my strength after cancer surgery. I would come across commercials on TV, and I would prepare my memory to capture the toll-free number, and run to the phone before I forgot it. Sometimes, the number was just on the screen, and I didn’t even have the option to order the product if I had wanted to.
When I was able to order exercise programs; which promised to be the answer to all of my fitness needs, I would pop in the DVD and more often than not, I could not get past the menus with my remote. After asking for help and eventually getting to the exercise portions of the videos, I discovered that the instructors did not describe the movements that were shown on the video and it was impossible for me to participate. After ordering program after program in an effort to take charge of my own health, I found that they were of little or no use to me.
I decided to get off my butt, stop whining about the lack of usable exercise resources, and I created BlindAlive, LLC.
At BlindAlive, we are proud to have created a user-friendly, completely accessible solution to exercise and fitness that you can do with confidence in your own home. Now, with resources you can use, you do not have to take charge of your health and fitness alone. All of our exercise products have been tested by blind and low vision individuals to ensure that they are completely accessible to members of this community.
The entire team at BlindAlive is passionate about making health and fitness available to anyone who wants to be healthy and strong. We are motivated to continue to bring you the finest, accessible products and programs to help you reach your goals. We are continually updating our website with workouts and products, blog posts, podcasts and ways to support you on your path to health and wellness. At BlindAlive, we create more choices for more people.
There are many barriers that we as blind individuals need to navigate, but I am doing everything in my power to remove those that can keep us from exercising, moving our bodies, and creating the healthy bodies that we all want. I believe that it is my responsibility to take charge of my own health to the best of my ability. When we take charge of our own health, we become more confident one step at a time. I am inviting you to come with me on this path to a healthier, stronger and more functional body.
