Accessible Fitness, more choices for more people

Fitness has always been a concern with regard to both mental and physical health regardless of age, gender, or any other variables that make each one of us unique. And for those in the blind community, fitness is every bit as much—if not more—important.

Exercise for the visually impaired is something that should be incorporated into a weekly, if not daily, routine for a variety of reasons that are both similar and different from people within the sighted community. For those with total loss of sight as well as for those who are low sighted, a lack of regular exercise can bring on a host of other issues, including weight gain, sluggishness, and perhaps worst of all for many, insomnia or a circadian rhythm that has been thrown completely off track.

A quality workout done at the right time of day and at the right pace to meet your unique physical and mental needs is just what the doctor may have forgotten to order. For many blind people, fitness has been a challenge: without someone to guide you and without the ability to drive yourself to the gym, it becomes obvious why so many visually impaired individuals give up—but with the BlindAlive line of Fitness Workouts for blind people, you’ll never have to depend on anyone else again.

Yoga and Strength Training with wieghts for blind people along with a variety of other cardiovascular exercises help our bodies stay toned, help us gain muscle mass and lose weight, but most of all, can help lead a blind person away from a sense of helplessness.

Are you ready to sweat? Come get healthy and leave all your notions of not being able to get fit due to your visual impairment behind with BlindAlive!

My wife and I were diagnosed with diabetes, (type 2). We have done all that
we can do with trying to lose weight via dieting.

Our doctors strongly urged us to increase our activity. We had been walking
a great deal but found it was not enough to make a difference. My wife has
always had an interest in stability ball exercises and has a tape that was
purchased for her, but it is not well described. We originally were
intrigued by your ball workout, which got us to look at some of your
other options, and we decided to go all out. Our current plan is to work on
the ball workout for two weeks, then gradually branch out to the other
workouts we have purchased. If you ever want to consider a second ball
workout (more advanced, even if it is not necessarily aerobic, but works on
further improving health), we would buy it. My wife and I have begun talking
about how good your products are to any blind people who will listen.
Seriously, we have some other products that are described for the blind and
they are not as well-done. Either they leave a lot out, or they are too
simple. We are thrilled with your products, and will probably purchase those
we haven’t gotten to very soon. We absolutely do not share anything we buy
with anyone as we understand that this is your product and you deserve to
reap the financial benefits of your efforts. Thank you again, and we look
forward to purchasing more workouts.
I have other workouts that I got before but it seems to me that this
will be a good one after a beautiful mountain hike. Of course, with
the difficult trail walking conditions, every muscle in your body gets
used to keep your balance and needs a good stretch when you’re done,
especially when you’re 68 years old.

Yesterday, I went on my first hike with my new pack on a mountain just
North of Montreal. It was very rocky and with many roots. I had my
Back-T-pack quite heavily loaded with a large water bottle for myself,
and another large water bottle for my dog, my lunch which was quite
heavy a spare jacket and other clothing in case I got too hot, large
towel to clean the dog from the mud, and all the other equipment
usually required for a several hour hike. I put on my Back T Pack
when I got out of the car and never removed it until I got back to the
car late afternoon. I even kept it on while having my lunch because
all the weight was on my lap and, being totally blind, I wanted to
have everything close at hand. The fact that my Back T Pack had the
weight distributed on both sides made it much easier to keep my
balance on the rough trail. I had taken good care to adjust it as
described and balanced the weight. Since it was heavy, I had the hip
belt done up during the difficult walk and removed it for the lunch
break. I even found the loop at the back of the pack really handy to
slip in my collapsible walking stick while not in use. All in all,
my Back T Pack, my dog, a good pair of hiking boots and a good
walking stick made it a beautiful day for a totally blind person to
enjoy a wonderful walk on a mountain trail, listening to the rushing
river, the water falls and smelling the freshly fallen leaves. Now,
wouldn’t you have wanted to be there with us?

This morning, I began with my very first Eyes Free Fitness workout sculpting with weights. It was great, there were parts when I couldn’t quite keep up, but that’s great too as it gives me room to improve. I am so thrilled to have access to accessible work outs. Winters in the northeastcan be so cold and confining. With your workouts not only can I warm up but can also become more active and
fit right at home. Love it!!!

I just want to let you know that the backpack arrived today. It is awesome! I am very proud of myself for figuring out how to put it on. I think this happened because someone gave a very good description in one of your podcasts. I am so excited to use it as it is so comfortable and convenient. It will probably get its first good workout when I attend the 4-day Winnipeg Folk Festival this July. I expect I will get a lot of inquiries about where I got such a great backpack.
Thanks so much for all that you are doing. I am enjoying the workouts. As you noticed, after much study and consideration, I purchased quite a few. I am hoping that the variety and promise of advancing to greater intensity will keep me motivated. I love that I can take my exercises with me wherever I go.
All the best and keep up the great work.

I just purchased Slow Flow Yoga. Once again, you did a great job. I have practised Yoga in the past, but this is the first time I have understood the breath flow in the sun salutation. The music was great.

I have recently found your podcasts and I am a big fan of both you and Lisa. I am so excited to have found your creation, it feels as though we have our own private gym, that does not require sight to be a member!
Thank you so much for recognizing and taking action in making physical activity accessible to all of us. I will continue to listen and learn.

I literally just finished my first Cardio 1 workout and am glowing with energy and sweat! Love it! Absolutely fabulous product and workout! I’ve missed being able to workout like this at home since I lost my sight. So glad you created this!

I discovered the Blind Alive Workouts late last year, was really impressed with the idea of having actual workouts I can follow, and decided to give it a try. The gentle workouts are great. Not terribly intense, but still enough to provide a gently challenging exercise routine. I also have the level 1 programs, and plan on obtaining more of these treasures! Thanks for providing us with completely accessible exercise programs! Keep up the great work, and here’s to your continued success!

A personal touch is what John Maxwell calls : “Going the extra mile.” Too many people run their businesses but are not directly involved. I loved the personal call I received from Mel and I valued the time we spent on the call. It is refreshing to see when people care about the end result which is helping others. I am on board!!!!!

I downloaded the workouts and the descriptions, and they are wonderful. I did Sculpting with Weights Level One, and wow! You really get a workout within a half hour. I might have to go back to review the descriptions but it was well worth spending the money to get something that is so worthwhile. It beats a gym membership any day, and I would rather have the gym come to me versus me going to the gym. I know at a regular gym you are not going to get anything like what I can now do in my own home. I have been looking forward to something that is all audio and it is awesome.

The Sculpting with Weights 1 workout is wonderfully-described and invigorating! The narrator is unfailingly encouraging when my body is tiring. When I complete the workout, I feel a pleasant sense of accomplishment! Thank you, BlindAlive, for offering our community these excellent workouts!

This is a great workout which I’ve been doing for weeks now. After ordering, I received my Gentle Workouts set CD quickly, and got straight to work. There are four 20-minute workouts in this set. You can choose to do one or all 4, like I do. It’s hard at first if this is the first time in a while you are exercising, but you’ll feel great when done. The workouts in this set are chair and standing exercises. Hand Dumbbells can also be used for some. The music is lively and upbeat. The workout coach, Mel, is fun, upbeat and encouraging. Somehow, she always knows what to say during the workout ... Like, sit up tall (when you’re slouching) or don’t forget to breathe, etc. These workouts can be done every day or you can alternate the days according to how you feel. Every exercise is fully explained so a visually impaired person can do these independently. A sighted person can enjoy these workouts as well. The BlindAlive website has full descriptions of all exercises needed to perform during workouts. If unsure of an exercise or have questions, contact customer service for a quick, friendly response. I purchased additional workouts to add a variety to my exercise routine and keep it interesting. BlindAlive has a great selection of workouts in which to choose. I am blind and must tell you that this line of workouts is the first and only I’ve come across where I can do them in confidence without sighted help. I give these workouts and the Coaches 200-plus stars!

I have always wanted to be physically fit, but I was always limited to the things I could do due to my blindness. This is why over the yeears, my treadmill became my favorite method of exercising. As I got older, I felt the need to do more than just the treadmill. I wanted something that would include my entire body in it’s workout. This is where Blind Alive came in. I heard about you and the wonderful work you’re doing via Blind Bargains audio podcast. I immediately invested in your total package of easy workouts and level 1 workouts of cardio and weight lifting. These were my best investments of 2015!!! I went from exercising 3 to 5 times a week; to 5 to 6 times a week. I’m feeling much better. I’ve lost over 20 pounds. I am constantly conscious of my posture; even on the mall, I find myself holding my stomach in while walking. Now, I have a good reason to keep fit, not only in the summer, but also in the winter. I cannot say thank you enough! Blind Alive should be an integral part of every blind person’s life; because, your well thought out and superbly delivered programs make all of us come alive!!!

I received my Pilates ring in good condition, and like it a lot better than the one I purchased from Amazon. On this ring, the foam rollers are much more comfortable than the one I bought from Amazon. It was worth the money.

A fantastic work out! Great instruction, up-beat, fun and a really good intense sweat. I wish more work outs were this accessible.
— Craig P.
Having each workout explained so I don’t have to play twister to keep my eyes on the tv to make sure I am doing things right has made my workout much more enjoyable.
